Confidence on Display at Stockport Ladybrook Speakers Club Topics Contest
Table Topics can strike fear into even the most experienced speaker. Speaking without preparation, thinking on your feet, and trusting yourself to find the right words isn’t easy – and it’s often the part of public speaking people are most reluctant to attempt.
But last night at Stockport Ladybrook Speakers Club, our members showed exactly why there’s no need to be.
A fantastic 12 members took part in our annual Topics Contest, stepping well outside their comfort zones and embracing the challenge with enthusiasm, humour and confidence. The contest was brilliantly chaired by Helen Shah, who kept the evening running smoothly and created a supportive atmosphere that encouraged everyone to give their best.
Our thanks also go to judges Marilyn Gregory and Peter Levy, whose thoughtful feedback and professionalism helped make the event both fair and inspiring.
The standard on the night was extremely high, making the judges’ task a difficult one. Congratulations to Catherine Stuart, who was named the winner and proudly took home the trophy. President Christine Farrow secured second place, with Gay Rhodes finishing a well-deserved third.
